Kaprisha Vallecillo is an associate attorney at The Bloom Firm. Kaprisha graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, concentrating on Inequality; Law and Society. She was awarded the Leo Meltzer award for best undergraduate thesis and served as a member of the University Hearing Board, where she played an instrumental role in screening complaints prior to students facing disciplinary hearings. Kaprisha also earned a Master’s in Public Administration from the Cornell University Institute for Public Affairs. While in graduate school, Kaprisha interned at a lobbying firm in Washington DC.
Kaprisha received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California. While at USC, she competed in the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition, where she was the Western Regional Champion, earned an award for the Western Regional Best Brief, and was a quarterfinalist in the national competition. Kaprisha has been an extern with the Superior Court of California, has negotiated international contracts as an intern at Sony Pictures International, and helped a small non-profit develop an employee handbook that is tailored to former prison inmates through USC’s Employer Legal Advice Clinic. In addition, Kaprisha served as an attorney volunteer at Neighborhood Legal Services of LA County, where she advised low-income parties on issues such as divorce, custody and visitation, eviction, and workers’ rights.
In the past four years, Kaprisha provided legal services to small businesses and families with a focus on small business development and litigation, family law litigation and mediation, bankruptcy, estate planning and administration, criminal defense, and eviction She has managed and litigated cases involving prenuptial agreements, divorce, legal separation, dissolution of domestic partnerships, divisions of property, spousal support, child custody, child visitation, child support, and paternity cases. Kaprisha has also managed related cases involving restraining orders, criminal domestic violence, and juvenile dependency cases. Kaprisha currently serves on a local chapter of the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council as the Council’s Vice President, Business and Economics Committee Director, and Elections and Voter Engagement Committee Director.
